People tend not to change their behavior simply because they’re told to do so. So, in an effort to help JEA combat people pouring and flushing the wrong things into wastewater systems, we created an enemy we could all fight together, as a community – Frederick “Freddy” Fatberg. The campaign parodies the classic monster cinema genre of the 1950s and 1960s to entertain and educate people on the detrimental impact of flushing personal wipes down the toilet and the looming threat of fatbergs. The campaign won multiple awards within the utilities industry and was recognized as a best practice by a leading utility industry research firm.
